Key Takeaways

  • Choose a platform flexible enough for your present and future needs. With Liferay SaaS, Itron has been able to meet their current business goals knowing the technology will help them meet more long-term goals as well.
  • Don’t settle for a less-than-ideal solution. When Itron’s digital marketing needs weren’t adequately met by their platform, they decided to invest elsewhere.
  • Find technology partners that will set your solution and your teams up for success. Americaneagle.com made sure to implement the website Itron wanted while also equipping internal teams to understand how to use Liferay’s Low-Code tools.

Background

A global leader operating in more than 100 countries for 8,000 utilities and cities, Itron is transforming how the world manages energy, water, and city services. The company's trusted intelligent infrastructure solutions help utilities and cities improve efficiency, build resilience, and deliver safe, reliable, and affordable service.

Challenges

In pursuit of delivering the best experience for prospects and customers around the world, Itron decided their public website needed an overhaul. The website had been built on a platform that was challenging to maintain—and lacked the functionality Itron needed.

Itron was looking for a new technology platform for the website that could:
  1. Build brand awareness and reposition Itron solutions and offerings to strengthen the company's position in the industry.
  2. Improve lead generation. Finding the right platform would mean an opportunity to design a better user journey and flow down the sales funnel.
  3. Support true localization. Although their current platform technically had some localization capabilities, the functionality was limited and didn’t fit the true needs of site visitors.
  4. Offer growth opportunities for the future. Itron had long-term plans that couldn’t be solved by their current platform, including expanded capabilities meeting the demand of the latest digital experience.

Implementation

Itron searched the market for a SaaS solution that would fit their present and future requirements, ultimately choosing Liferay SaaS for its hassle-free upgrades, extensive out-of-the-box features that enable multiple solution creation, as well as native commerce, integration, and search capabilities.

After using an external design partner, Itron worked with Liferay Platinum Partner Americaneagle.com on the implementation of their Liferay SaaS website over the course of a few months. The website includes an important integration with Sharepoint that allows them to export data easily. This integration makes it seamless for prospects and customers to view Itron’s product catalog online, which contains hundreds of products.

With Liferay SaaS powering their website, Itron can:
  1. Give users a truly localized experience. Using Liferay’s multi-site capabilities, 15 regions have their own individual site experiences, where everything, from the products shown to the navigation, is localized in all the right languages.
  2. Enable business users to manage day-to-day tasks. Now that the initial implementation is finished, the team at Itron can take advantage of Low-Code features in Liferay to create and manage content with minimal developer support.
  3. Operate with the present and future of their technology goals in mind. The platform meets Itron's current needs while laying the foundation for future capabilities when the need arises.
With the technology partnership of Americaneagle.com and the possibilites of Liferay SaaS, Itron can evolve their digital offerings to meet the needs of their existing customers while attracting an increasing wealth of new prospects.
