About MillerKnoll

MillerKnoll is one of the world’s largest and premier design companies, representing a collective of dynamic brands. MillerKnoll designs and manufactures innovative furniture, textiles, and interior solutions that serve markets around the globe.

Challenges

As a crucial mainstay of daily operations, MillerKnoll had developed a customized supplier portal. The portal had seen wide adoption from 450+ global suppliers and 700 employees and, in many ways, worked well for users.

Over time, however, it became clear that the portal wasn’t sustainable for the long term:

  • The underlying code base was unsupported
  • The portal lacked modern user experience features
  • The system had security vulnerabilities
  • The infrastructure itself was outage-prone

Even though any change carried the risks of trying to shift a highly-integrated system, MillerKnoll knew they needed a solution that would facilitate modernization across people, processes, and technology in order to support their future growth.

Implementation

MillerKnoll chose Liferay DXP for their new technology platform and worked with Liferay Partner Nirvana Lab for implementation. Liferay DXP’s customizability, extensibility, integration support, and interoperability all contributed to the final decision.

Liferay DXP’s modern architecture also enabled MillerKnoll to decouple the front end from the back end using APIs, ensuring the platform’s ability to adapt in the future.

The new platform takes advantages of these features and capabilities:

  • Flexible permission API
  • Configurable security including users, roles, permissions, and resources
  • DAM
  • Scheduling services
  • SAML SSO
  • Notifications
  • Enhanced Excel reporting

Results

Now that MillerKnoll has rolled out the new platform, the solution offers suppliers and employees:
  • An on-brand, personalized experience, with seamless, role-based access through Single Sign-On (SSO.)
  •   A scalable, resilient, and cloud-ready technology foundation.
  • Improved user experience, with configurable workflows and personalized navigation.
MillerKnoll plans to continue updating their supplier portal and expanding its usage across different teams.
